Ministry Certificate Program
Course Descriptions

    1.      Understanding Your Call to Ministry:  This class will focus on teaching the student “what is a call from God,” how to recognize the call of God, and the specific area of ministry God has called them to; understanding that God calls people for different purposes and objectives (i.e., a specific place, life-long ministry; specific task or a combination).

2.      Christian Doctrine:  In this course the student will encounter an in depth study of the basic foundation for their belief in God, an understanding of the doctrines of revelation, creation and providence, humanity, sin, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, the atonement and salvation and the church.

3.      Christian Discipleship:          This course is designed to teach the student that Christian discipleship is a process by which they grow in their walk with God, and are equipped by the Holy Spirit to overcome the pressures and trial of this present life.  The material presented will also show the student how to respond to the Spirit’s call to examine and compare our thoughts, words and actions against the Word of God.  And lastly, it will show how to disciple others to walk in a way that is pleasing to God.  Simply put, fulfilling The Great Commission.

4.      Old Testament Survey:  The goal of this course is to give the student a short survey of the books of the Old Testament.  The material presented will cover key terms, verses, themes or purposes of each of the books along with a brief description of the content.  The Old Testament contains 39 books that are categorized as:  Law, History, Poetry, Wisdom, Major Prophets, and Minor Prophets.

5.      New Testament Survey:  The goal of this course is to give the student a short survey of the books of the New Testament.  The material presented will cover key terms, verses, themes or purposes of each of the books along with a brief description of the content. The New Testament contains 27 books that are categorized as:  Gospels, History, Letters and Prophecy.

6.      Biblical Exegesis I:  “Exegesis - To interpret a text by way of analysis of its content.”  “Basically finding out what the Spirit originally was saying in the Bible passage through its author.” – The goal of this course is to teach the student how to exam a particular text of scripture in order to properly interpret it by applying some basic principles:  (i.e., grammatical principal, literal principle, historical principle, synthesis principle and practical principle.  (This will be a two-part course.)

7.      Biblical Exegesis II:  (See Description Above)

8.      Pneumatology  (A Study of the Holy Spirit):  The material presented in this class will focus on the Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, and His work within the life of a believer.

9.      Church Polity – (Pentecostal Church History & Doctrine):  This course focuses on the history of the Pentecostal Church (a renewalist religious movement within Christianity, that places special emphasis on a direct personal experience with God through the baptism of the Holy Spirit) with a major focus on the Church of God In Christ, its founders, doctrine, beliefs, organizational structure, etc.

10.  Effective Communication and Writing Techniques:  This course will instruct the student on how to effectively communicate in any situation, whether it be witnessing, teaching a lesson in the classroom, preparing a sermon or general public speaking.
